Cominos Marie G

The KSOCA mourns the loss of long-time member Marie Cominos. Marie was a devoted member of the KSOCA for many years. After retiring and moving to Oregon several years ago, even though she was unable to attend our luncheons, she continued to make generous donations to our memorial & scholarship  funds.
Her father George was one of the founding members of the KSOCA and the first president from 1950-1951.
Her sweet demeanor will be missed by all. Our sincere condolences to the Cominos family. Eternal be her memory.

On December 25th, 2020, Marie Cominos, loving daughter and mother, passed away at home. Marie was born on August 19,1928, in Salinas, California, to George and Helen Cominos. She attended school in Salinas as well as Hartnell College. Marie worked for the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office in Salinas for 30 years.

Marie was an active and devoted member of the Salinas community especially St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church. She participated in all aspects of the community’s spiritual life and volunteered at various events. Within the community she served as Troop Leader for Girl Scouts of America and volunteered with the Monterey County Hospice Foundation and the Monterey County Historical Society. Marie was considered the historian of the Cominos family. She loved her family, their history and their Greek heritage. She worked hard to preserve the history of the Cominos Hotel and it’s role within the Salinas community.

After retirement, Marie moved to Oregon to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter. She has been a lifelong supporter of the Greek Orthodox faith and a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Salinas, Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Salem, OR, and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Northridge, California.

Marie was preceded in death by her mother and father, George N. and Helen Cominos, her brother Nick, and her sister Bessie. She is survived by her daughter Eleni, son in law Nick and granddaughter Geneva as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie always kept a smiling face, a kind demeanor, showed abundant enthusiasm and commitment to events/charities that she supported and had a kind word for everyone. She had a gentle, sassy and independent spirit. She would want to thank all of you for your friendship and support of her and her family over the years.

Donations may be made to: Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Salem, Oregon; Monterey Historical Society in Salinas, CA; Willamette Valley Hospice in Salem; OR Horses Adaptive Riding & Therapy (HART) in Independence, OR.

The funeral service was held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Eugene, Oregon on December 29, 2020.
