George Condas was summoned to divine eternity on April 20, 2016, in the midst of those who loved him. Born to Eftihia and Achilles Condas of Lesbos, Greece, George as a true native of San Francisco, residing in the upper Marina district. He attended Lowell High School, while working at his father’s candy store, Rainbow Sweet Shop. George attended UC Berkeley, where he obtained both his B.S. and M.S. in applied physics, graduating cum laude and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. It’s also worth noting he was a student of Edward Teller, A.K.A. the “father of the Hydrogen Bomb.”

Following graduation he worked for E. Teller at Lawrence Livermore Radiation Laboratory, concurrently pursuing and then receiving his PhD in Physics at the University of Santa Clara. George spent the bulk of his career working for IBM, where his research was published and cited in various books and journals, and where he became the inventor of multiple patents. His career itself has garnered him notoriety and honorable mentions in several books including, but not limited to “Cambridge Who’s Who” and most recently, “The Remington Registry of Outstanding Professionals.”

He was a brilliant physicist, accomplished violinist, scholar, theologian, philatelist, Physics professor, keynote speaker, research director, devout Orthodox Christian and generous contributor to his plentiful affiliations.

But Above all: George was a devoted and doting husband of 46 years to his beloved wife, Anastasia; a loving, dedicated, and perceptively witty father and Pappou. A man of great faith, intelligence, and the very definition of the words kind and humble.

He antecedes his daughters, Diana (Eftihia Damiani) Prendergast, Penelope Condas (Nicholas Gazelas); his “grand” girls Angelica (James Craft), Veronica, Andrea (Garcia), Katherine and Alexandra (Prendergast); Great grand children Elias, Dreana and Jordan; his dearest sister, Kleanthy Gonos and the incomparable Penelope Conomos (matriarch and mother of the late Anastasia).

The Trisagion will be held in Hayward at Sorenson Mortuary: Sunday April 24, at 5PM.

The funeral will take place at the Castro Valley Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church: Monday April 25, at 11AM.
